RF Calculator
A quick check or reference for RF signal strength requirements for wireless modems or analog radio-modem combinations are available as downloads from this website. The RF propagation calculators are user-friendly, rule-of-thumb free-space-path loss calculators.
Instructions:
1. Download RF Calculator. This program requires dotnet on your PC. If you do not have dotnet, download it in Step 2 or proceed to Step 4.
2. Download Dotnet (23 MB .zip).
3. Extract dotnet and run dotnetfx.exe
4. Extract RF Calculator and run setup.exe. This calculator will assist in finding the required antenna height and maximum distance for a line-of-sight RF connection. The fade margin calculations will assist the end user in determining RF system losses and gains excluding the terrain and other obstructions in the RF path.
5. If you do not wish to download the program at this time but would like to perform simple calculations, use RF Calculator (.xls file). This spreadsheet requires the user to enter their own equipment specification values for losses and gains. The calculations in this spreadsheet are very basic and for rule of thumb referencing only.
